STREET PHOTOGRAPHY.

A few weeks ago, I joined the Photography Society at my university. I really wanted to get to know how to use my DSLR camera in different conditions and on different subjects, and this particular society just seemed perfect for developing these skills. The first theme we've been given is Street/Candid Photography, which involves taking photos of people out and about. The goal is to try and take the photos as inconspicuously as possible so as not to draw attention to the fact that you are taking someone's photograph. This way your subject remains unaware of you taking their photo, and you are then able to capture the real essence of that person. So here is a selection of my favourite images that I've taken. I also threw into the mix a few photos of objects I found on the streets as well.

DAY TRIP TO BLACKPOOL.

I visited Blackpool with my parents and some relatives last week. We went up the tower, (walked across yet another glass floor) and then wandered along the beach and one of the piers. I'd never actually been to Blackpool during the day before - previously I'd only ever been at night when the Illuminations are on around October - and I have to say, the whole experience seemed a bit tacky to me, what with all the pink-maned donkeys trotting up and down the promenade, and every other shop using Comic Sans to promote "the best fish and chips in Blackpool" in their windows. Nevertheless, the sun was shining, kids were having a blast splashing about in the sea, and my dad bought me a raspberry slushie, so overall the day was reasonably pleasant. I took a few photos of the things that caught my eye (in a good way!) and I thought I'd share them here with you all :)

Have you ever been to Blackpool?

TRIP TO PORTSMOUTH.

I went to Portsmouth for a few days on another university-related trip; it was a long drive from home but it was definitely worth it. The Spinnaker Tower (the big white pointy building in my photos) is a pretty famous and incredible structure in Portsmouth, so naturally I took a lot of photos of it - at night and day! I even went right to the top of the tower and walked across the skywalk (that's what the last photo is… it's not just a random photo of my feet!). But there were other things about the city that caught my eye, and subsequently my camera lens, like the many different styles of buildings throughout Portsmouth and even just some graffiti that I found near the university. So I thought I'd share some of my favourite snaps with you all… hope you like them! :)

DAY TRIP TO LINCOLN.

On the day of my interview for the University of Lincoln, I took my new camera along because I knew that Lincoln had a gorgeous cathedral and adorable streets that I wanted to take photos of. I really love the little boutiques that have cute little signs hanging above the doors!

NEW CAMERA!

The main present that I'd asked for for my 18th birthday was a Digital SLR camera… and I did in fact end up getting the Canon EOS 700D - I was so chuffed when I unwrapped it!

It's the first ever big fancy camera I've ever owned and the photos that you can take with it are extremely high quality (if you know how to use it?!)

Please excuse the dressing gown.

I took photos from both my new DSLR camera and my iPhone 5S camera to show the vast improvement in quality, focus and colouring that the DSLR gives:
